A dream career comes true at the Victorian Heart Hospital

When the Victorian Heart Hospital was first announced, Adam Damianopoulos knew it was something he wanted to be a part of.

And after being offered an Emergency Nurse Manager position, his dream has finally become a reality – and now he can’t wait to get started.

“I’m most excited to build a team from scratch and support their growth and development,” he said.

“I am passionate toward building values-led teams, and being there to support their growth and development to become highly qualified and successful nurses.”

Having lived overseas in the UK for the past five years, Adam will be making the move back to Australia for the role and will be bringing his plethora of experience working in international cardiac emergency services and coronary care to the Victorian Heart Hospital (VHH).

“Working at VHH will be similar to what I’ve done here in the UK but on a much larger scale,” he said.

“I am looking forward to working with multidisciplinary colleagues to create a world-leading department, expanding our work at VHH in the future to international collaborations with specialists I have met in the UK and Europe as well.”

The emergency department at the VHH will be debuting a new cardiac model of care, providing fast access to cardiac specialists and high-quality care for cardiac emergencies across a range of different conditions, including heart attacks, acute coronary syndromes and more.

Adam said he has always had an “absolute passion” for heart health and emergency cardiac services.

“The majority of my clinical career has been in cardiology and emergency cardiac care,” he said.

“I am passionate toward reducing the burden of cardiovascular disease and I am excited to observe an improvement in cardiovascular health in the community with the opening of VHH.

“The desire to provide high-quality emergency care to patients presenting to emergency services is why I applied to the VHH – it’s a state-of-the-art facility and an Australian first, and I wanted to be a part of its story and the services it provides.”

For nurses considering applying for a role in the VHH Emergency Department, Adam said the opportunities for growth would be endless.

“It’s a brand-new hospital with world-leading facilities and we will all be learning together,” he said.

“Any nurse interested in the VHH should definitely apply -It’s truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I don’t know if a similar opportunity would arise again, where we build an Australian-first hospital and unit.”
