Around 120 people die in Australia each day from cardiovascular disease (CVD).
The good news is that many of the key risk factors for CVD are preventable.
On World Heart Day (September 29), the Director of the Victorian Heart Hospital and Monash Victorian Heart Institute Professor Steve Nicholls shared his top tips to help you take charge of your heart health.
Heart health tips:
- Do not smoke, or take steps towards quitting
- Eat a healthy, balanced diet and watch your salt intake
- Do regular physical activity – aim for 30 mins a day
- Know your numbers – blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar are silent risks for CVD
- Get a 20 min Heart Health Check with a GP
By adjusting your lifestyle, you can significantly reduce your risk of heart attack, stroke, and heart failure.
Don’t put it off – act today!
