Participation in studies plays a vital role in advancing medicine, helping develop personalised therapies and improving the future of cardiovascular care for everyone.
At the Victorian Heart Hospital, the Monash Cardiovascular Research Centre (MCRC) conducts trials from phases 1 to 4, ensuring safety and efficacy across various areas.
- Interventional trials include testing materials and/or drug coatings for stents and balloons, and imaging techniques to improve the outcomes of procedures to treat coronary artery disease.
- Structural heart trials include testing of new materials and devices for valve replacements and repairs that may be necessary due to inherited conditions or general ageing.
- Rhythm management trials include new cardiac mapping and ablation catheter technologies, new implantable devices and procedure techniques for the management of atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia.
- Pharmaceutical trials include testing new medications for lipid reduction (LDL cholesterol, triglycerides, lipoprotein(a), and medications for glucose regulation (e.g. GLP1 receptor agonists), treatment of hypertension and heart failure, to lower participant risk of cardiovascular events.
- Cardiothoracic surgery trials include testing of new medications before or after bypass surgery to improve recovery and prevent future cardiovascular events.
